Fires are an ever-present risk in Marin County and throughout California, and Inverness needs a parcel tax to fund expanded fire services. While it is undeniable that this is a regressive way to raise funds, and we wish that fire services could be adequately funded, the community has long suffered from a tax system that favors the wealthy and large corporations, so we support a fair and equitable tax system that provides all children, regardless of class, with quality public schools and public services for the next generation. For now, ensuring the community has the resources it needs is the priority, and this parcel tax is the unavoidable choice.
