Calistoga schools will receive increased funding from bond revenue. Issuing bonds is undeniably a regressive funding mechanism that indebts the public and allows the financial industry to interfere with democratic processes. We wish that public spaces were adequately funded. However, the community has long lived under an unjust tax system that favors the wealthy and large corporations, so we support a fair and just tax system that allows the next generation, regardless of socioeconomic background, to enjoy quality public school education and public services. For now, ensuring the community has access to the resources it needs is paramount, and issuing bonds is an unavoidable choice.
