Measure Z – Align the Election Calendar and Move to District Elections

Redwood City

This measure aligns the city charter with current election practices, including aligning local elections with the statewide calendar and officially moving to district elections. The legacy of segregation in our cities has led to concentrated wealth in certain neighborhoods, and allowed whiter, wealthier neighborhoods to dominate city councils. District elections allow working-class communities and communities of color to elect leaders who represent us, ensuring that every section of the city, regardless of wealth or race, is represented.
